The Tragical Comedy or Comical Tragedy of Punch and Judy, performed in December 2004, was an adaptation by Nick Hall and Amy Verity of the first recorded transcript of a Punch and Judy puppet show.
The violence found in the puppet show made for a very interesting play. People shrieked, looked away, and (apparently) a few even complained. Interesting what we find acceptable entertainment for our children when in puppet form.
Billy Bowness' fantastically scary Mr Punch find himself on a spree of violence and killing, which results in a superb battle between him and The Devil. The audience just didn't know who to cheer for.
Billy Bowness, who played Mr Punch.
